I learned years ago from my husband’s example that one can productively make comments in a positive, loving way. It’s encouraging to hear Liz Lerman had found a method to teach others how to support and encourage people to shine and improve in whatever venue they choose to express. Thank you for sharing this thoughtful approach.
By using Liz’s technique in our class I’ve discovered that you have to invest time into listening and welcome a dialogue exchange. It’s not just a “wham, bam, say something supportive and your done” kind of thing.
Paul (and you) are excellent examples of good listening, positivity and patience. No surprise there, since you were an elementary school teacher and Paul has led men’s support groups for years, (a rare thing in my mind.)
Yes, Karenne. You may be particularly interested in learning more about Liz Lerman’s approach to critiquing since you too (like Liz) are a dancer and educator. The link to her video on my Substack page is a great place to start, but she has publshed a lot of writings on the subject too.
Yes! People may not know that Liz is known for her choeography. That she was able to apply her techniques to dance is amazing to me. I imagine it went something like this: "In what direction do you think you should point your toe to convey your feelings of loss and sadness?" YIKES!

I must think of my words wisely, I LOVED WHAT YOU EXPRESSED Marilyn, I must look into Liz L.

I'm so glad that CRP has been useful to you, Marilyn. Yay for Liz Lerman's tremendous insights!
